Editor pleads not guilty to false blog posting

The Star, Sept 2nd, 2010

PETALING JAYA: Tabloid Malay Mail's lifestyle and entertainment executive editor Irwan Abd Rahman pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here Thursday to making a false blog posting titled "TNB to sue WWF over Earth Hour" with the intention of causing hurt to the feelings of others.

He allegedly posted the false comment on http://nose4news.wordpress.com between 6 to 7pm at B-3A-01, 02&3, Dataran 3 Dua, No 2, Jalan 19/1, PJ on March 25 this year.

The offence under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998 carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or maximum 1 year jail or both.

Irwan, who is known on the blog as his alter ego Hassan Skodeng, was present in court with his wife.
His colleagues from Malay Mail including Datuk Ahiruddin Atan (Rocky's bru), Yushaimi Yahya and Najmuddin Najib were in court today to show support.

Sessions Court judge Hayatul Akmal Abdul Aziz set bail at RM4,000 in one surety. Ahiruddin stood as bailor. The court fixed Nov 24 for mention.

Intention to annoy? Doesn't MCMC see that its actions are annoying? Who comes up with this stupid and ridiculous act? Much more ridiculous than ISA.

What has become of this country?
