MAS Hina Sultan Pahang


Baru sahaja sikap derhaka Perdana Menteri, bekas Menteri Besar Terengganu dan ahli-ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri terhadap DYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Dipertuan Agong dan Pemangku Sultan Terengganu reda. Satu lagi insiden biadap dan menghina terhadap Raja-Raja Melayu oleh Malaysian Airlines kini menjadi buah mulut ramai.

Pada Mac 16hb, 2008, dalam seminggu selepas Pilihanraya Umum, DYMM Sultan Pahang sepatutnya berangkat ke London di dalam pesawat MAS. Tuanku Sultan Pahang merupakan satu-satunya Sultan yang menyokong MAS dan hanya menaiki perkhidmatan penerbangan MAS.

Mengikut lazimnya, Baginda akan menaiki bahagian Kelas Pertama dan ahli-ahli rombongannya akan berada di bahagian lain. Pada malam itu, seebaik saja Baginda Sultan menaiki pesawat dan selesa duduk, Baginda menyampaikan hajat kepada Kapten dan International Flight Steward (IFS) untuk berjumpa dengan doktor peribadinya yang berada di bahagian lain kapalterbang.

Permintaan Baginda ditolak. Setelah dipinta lagi, kedua-dua Kapten dan Steward bukan Melayu masih berkeras enggan membenarkan. Mengikut sumber dalaman MAS, baginda yang terkejut dengan keengganan mereka telah mengadu kepada ahli rombongan yang berdekatan. Seorang Ketua Polis telah masuk ke pesawat dan memujuk Kapten dan Steward tersebut. Mereka tetap berdegil tidak membenarkan doktor peribadi ke hadapan bertemu Tuanku.

Baginda Tuanku yang berasa kecil hati dengan sikap pegawai-pegawai tersebut mengambil keputusan untuk tidak menaiki pesawat MAS. Baginda dan rombongannya terpaksa menaiki pesawat yang diberi oleh Air Asia untuk ke Singapura dan menaiki Singapore Airline untuk ke destinasi London.

Peristiwa ini menunjukkan betapa teruk menurun sekali kualiti perkhidmatan MAS di bawah pentadbiran Dato Idris Jala. Suatu masa dahulu, MAS terkenal dengan mutu perkhidmatan dan kecekapan anak-anak kapal dalam melayani pelanggan.

Sekiranya begini layanan dan penghargaan yang diberikan kepada Sultan Pahang, bayangkan layanan MAS kepada rakyat marhaen yang menggunakan perkhidmatan MAS. Padahal pegawai-pegawai tinggi MAS, termasuk Idris Jala sendiri, diberi penghormatan anugerah dan pangkat oleh DYMM Sultan Pahang.

Dato Idris Jala telah diberi penuh kepercayaan oleh PM Dato Seri Abdullah Badawi untuk memulihkan MAS. Mengapakah boleh berlaku insiden sedemikian?

Di bawah pentadbiran Dato Idris Jala, suatu polisi diskrimanasi yang tersirat telah dibudayakan terhadap pekerja-pekerja dan pengurus-pengurus Melayu. Ia sering berlaku melibatkan pengurus-pengurus atasan bukan Melayu yang dibawa masuk terhadap pengurus-pengurus dan pekerja-pekerja lama Melayu.

Padahal suatu masa dahulu budaya kerja di MAS begitu muhibbah dan bebas dari diskriminasi perkauman. Walaupun peratusan orang Melayu agak tinggi, semua kaum mendapat peluang yang sama untuk naik pangkat. Diskriminasi kini sudah begitu terang-terang berlaku hingga pekerja-pekerja lama MAS dari kaum bukan Melayu tidak selesa dan tidak setujui dengan amalan diskriminasi sedemikian.

Sebagai petunjuk (indicator), pasukan baikpulih (turnaround team) Idris Jala yang seramai lebih kurang 10 orang adalah terdiri dari pengurus-pengurus dari luar, baru dalam industri penerbangan, dan bukan Melayu, melainkan hanya seorang pengurus Melayu dan staf lama MAS. Majoriti pengurus luar dan pengurus atasan yang dibawa Idris Jala adalah dari kaum bukan Melayu. Bukankah ini pelik memandangkan orang Melayu jauh lebih ramai dan lama terlibat di dalam Industeri Aeroangkasa tempatan?

Adakah sikap diskriminasi telah dibisik-bisikkan dan menjadi-jadi hingga terbawa-bawa kepada pelanggan Melayu dan Raja-Raja Melayu pun tidak dihormati?

Mungkinkah pula sikap pucuk kepemimpinan UMNO yang sudah tidak menghormati hingga derhaka kepada Raja-Raja Melayu dari akhir tahun lepas hingga selepas Pilihanraya Umum telah menular ke rakyat biasa?


Dalam bahasa pasar, adakah sejak Tun Musa Hitam mengumumkan DEB tidak perlu diamalkan di WPI, rakyat bukan Melayu sudah "besar kepala" untuk berbalas dendam? Bukankah DEB itu untuk menyatukan rakyat melalui program ekonomi, pendidikkan, sosial, dan bahasa?

Hanya boleh difikirkan adalah ikan mula busuk dari kepala.

Another mistake by AAB. Idris jala may have doen well in Shell..but MAS is a different ball game..Is he a Malay??..Not as defined by the Constitution..Bumiputera maybe..

Your post has a glaring loophole: it doesn't say WHY the doctors were not allowed....I've worked with MAS flight crew before and their professional training is of a very high standard. Many other airlines regularly poach MAS pilots and crew, and even send their crew for training with MAS. So basically, they are not idiots. There was a good reason, bank on it!

Also, I think Idris Jala is a fair, hardworking, low-profile, and effective CEO who commands the respect of the majority of MAS' 20,000 staff. It's easily one of the toughest corporate jobs running a company the size of a small state with stations and issues all over the world.

He's done well so far.

On the Malay issue: lepas 50 tahun merdeka, orang Melayu eloklah bangkit kerja keras untuk cari rezeki halal dan kehidupan sejahtera. Kalau terasa dianiaya, berjuanglah dan jangan takut nak suarakan berasaskan kebenaran, keadilan dan kebolehan. Tapi janganlah lagi berasaskan "saya bangsa Melayu, ini tanah datuk saya"...

Dunia ni memang banyak ketidakadilan, semua bangsa boleh menangis dan meratap nasibnya. Tapi lebih baik lagi berusaha, berjuang, raih ilmu tak henti-henti, beriman, beramal dan berdoa.

Teringat bagaimana layanan pramugari berbangsa Jepun pada saya yang terlalu kurang sopan, kemudian pada masa yang sama melayan bangsa Jepun penuh hormat.Hairan padahal dia berkerja dangan MAS, dan perlu adil melayan penumpang.

I dont think so your story is true..no way that MAS will show disrespectful to DYMM Sultan Pahang.Agreed that MAS service has been deteriorating lately inorder to turnaround as promised by idris jala.

Without information, you can only deny.

There is someone is good at denial.... the PM. The difference is he has information and yet is in denial.

WHat do you have to answer if I say that the Pilot has name starting with Z and he is Malay. The steward has a name starting with J. Both are facing a DI ... thats the abbreviation for Disciplinary Inquiry in MAS.

If you have counter fact to deny, I would appreciate like where was Tuanku Sultan Pahang on that date and few dasy after that. If you can show me he is not in London, I'll remove the whole posting.

I sure hope you do not have to force me to reveal names, which I am reluctant to do so.

1. I hope I don't have to tell exactly how many times DYMM was looking left and right when sitting to tell a story right, do I? If that seems to be the basis to dispute this story, I'll tell you. He wanted the physician next to him during takeoff. And there was space available!


2. Like I said MAS is well known for its excellent customer service. They are could even be considered a pioneer in customer service in this country and even conduct courses which is attended by foreign companies based here. But thats the past.


3. This management is so obtuse to understanding the key advantage and strength of MAS.

Idris Jala could be hardworking but doesn't mean he did the right thing. He is not a turnaround man but an expert in retrenchment. They don't call him The Butcher from Shell for nothing. He is trained in industrial relation and turned the Bintulu plant around by mere retrenching.

This is ole story. If you have to defend him based on this simplistic argument, man you are out dated, uninformed and behind in this issue.

Please google it. There was few relevant articles on Malaysia Today and its comments worth it reading last year. Biggum Dogmannsteinberg blog and this blog wrote extensive criticial pieces on MAS.

Please don't think, read up and show me fact!


4. I am in agreement with your view on Malay. You didn't read the article properly and tried to simplify the issue to fit your stereotype assumption.

MAS was part of the ole affirmative action that create hi-tech new sector for Malay without kacau periok nasi orang bukan melayu. Malays have been good at it. But MAS failed becasue of many many many factors ....greed of ppl at the top and market crises set it back.

There was no datok nenek story. MAS was running on whose good goes up... Melayu or not.

While others are accusing discrimination by Malays, MAS is a classic case of designed discrimination towards Malays by the leadership, family and family's friends.

Almost everyone with access are aware of Idris Jala's explicitly stated his stereotype of Bumiputera and his claim that he doesn ot want Malays at key position.

So, just becasue the world is unfair doesn't mean we have to take all this shit lying down.

1) Why would the Sultan take AIRASIA flight to Singapore when the Sultan can fly to singapore from KLIA using Singapore airlines directly.

2) You arent a MAS staff neither am i so who are we to judge what Idris has done? The man did turnaround MAS. Lets face it; we malaysians tend to always accuse BUT look at us. Can you do what he has done? Than proove it by encouraging people.

3) It is folks like you that bring down the malaysian image. We tend not to be proud of anything. Do you even know how hard Idris took to change the culture in MAS? A friend of mine again told me Idris was firm and pushed his way to ensure there was tons of cost saving.

3) Retrenchment. You must be really blur. Even Singapore Airlines; The world's biggest carrier has done this. Look at it this way. MAS was managed badly. Now he had to clean it up.

4) Bloggers should learn to be responsible. Back to your Sultan story get your facts clear from the sultan's grp. You will than know what actually happen.

5) You think Sultan of Pahang would be sitting on AIRASIA?
