Omar Ong to advance Tingkat 4 agenda with Petronas appointment

The tentacles of the Tingkat 4 seem to be more far reaching then previously imagined.

Despite Pak Lah no longer in power, the reminiscence of the ‘mastermind’ that almost ruined the country, foreign policy, self-destruction of UMNO and BN and to the extreme, a serious intra-racial skepticism and distrust still linger on.

One of them is trying to take advantage of Dato Najib's willingness to listen and bring in expertise and ideas from outside. The said person, who ambitiously attempted to be inside Prime Minister’s inner circle and worse still, private office, is now strategising himself up the echelon.

Rumours are buzzing that Ethos Consulting co-founder Omar Ong will be appointed as Director of Petronas, the cash-cow on the nation the last 25 years. This was after his attempt to be up in the top circle of Khazanah Holdings Bhd., being busted by bloggers like yours truly.

There is no such announcement yet. But indeed, it is a very dangerous situation for Malaysia, if such appointment slip through. Petronas is the single largest firm in the country and a major source of tax and dividends to the Malaysian Government.

The invisible ‘partner’ Ethos Consulting is Datuk Ahmad Zaki Zahid, the conniving former Head of Policy in Pak Lah’s private office and key player of Tingkat 4.

Zaki was instrumental in the dilution of strategic GLC shares to Singapore’s Temasek like Telekom Malaysia, the disposal of MV Agusta, and the creation of economic corridors where Singapore was invited into the planning and execution of policies and plans within Iskandar Malaysia.

His hands are deep in corporate deals such as ECM Libra-Avenue Capital scandal, and the merger of Sime Darby-Guthrie-Golden Hope into Synergy Drive.

On foreign policy matters which are supposed to be restricted within the realm of Wisma Putra, Zaki attempted to discipline Myanmar for ‘democratization’ during the ASEAN summit in Kuala Lumpur November 2005, which clearly is following Singapore's stance as demanded by Western powers.

It was Ethos Consulting that drafted the blueprint for the National Automotive Policy for Government, which saw the certain but slow death of Proton in favour of imported cars. They were roped in for NCER and Sabah Economic Corridor.

Omar Ong’s persistent persuasion is believed to have contributed to convinced Najib to exclude MECD from his Cabinet list, announced on 9 April 2009. Incidently, this was the same position expressed by Khairy during the Legasi Tun Abdul Razak seminar. (Look up Utusan Malaysia reports circa June 16-17th , 2007)

The presence of dedicated institution for Malay empowerment and affirmative action does not fit-in with their Western style free market and liberalisation agenda. One wonders why they did not work within parties with similar ideological leaning like DAP or PKR instead.

Najib's reason to disband MECD into several Ministries is likely to make way for his yet to be announced plan for the Bumiputera economic empowerment. However, the Tingkat 4 motive is more inclined to "destroy' such legacies. Thus far, Najib has not closed any agencies initiated by his late father.

Omar Ong's invisible association with Zaki Zahid and similarity in position on MECD with Khairy are indications that serve to disprove Omar Ong’s claim that he has split ways with Khairy. Omar Ong also claimed his original proposals to the Government were often detoured from its noble intention.

Nevertheless, he has been working his way for a position in Najib’s office for a while. His first success step was to handle Najib’s 1Malaysia website, which was verified to be linked to Ethos Consulting. The slogan 1Malaysia first appeared on this website many months before Najib assume premiership. The content still need approval from PM's office.


Omar Ong and Rohanna Mahmood of Ethos Consulting gained public prominence when The Star featured both of them in a Saturday Business Section article dated December 6th, 2008 entitled Who’s the new who’s who? One wonders who got their faces in.

This certainly has worked wonders for Omar Ong in making many Corporate CEOs into believing he is representing Najib. Rumours within the corporate circle are that Omar Ong managed to convince quite a few PLC CEOs that he is doing recruitment for Najib to fill the membership for the revived National Economic Advisory Council (NEAC). Many see it as Omar Ong attempt to fill the NEAC with "his people" to perpetuate his ideological agenda.

Though specific names is not mentioned, but observers believed one position in Najib's office is filled by a person that could later suit Omar Ong's purpose.

Omar Omar’s frequent presence at Putrajaya and Sri Satria has been raising eye brows. He managed to squeeze past protocols since he was seen by few UMNO sources present loitering at Najib’s swearing in ceremony at the Istana and the night’s thanksgiving function at his home.

With all positions filled, many wonder which position he is possibly lobbying for. Could it be he found it in a Directorship in Petronas? Certainly Petronas should not be saddled with such unsavory slick character whose greediness and intellectual ego have done more harm than good for the country.

Just like Khairy Jamaluddin who explicitly expressed his ambition to be the Malaysian Prime Minister by forty, amongst close friends, Omar Ong was rumoured to have boasted that he will be the Petronas CEO by the time he reached the same age,

Omar Ong dream appointment would need the then PM agreement. As it is, the PM aspirant is fortifying all positions in Pemuda UMNO to only his men, suspiciously taken from his 304 voters.

Unlike PAS which gives no guarantee for former Pemuda Chief a place as Vice President, UMNO seemed to guarantee such position for their former Pemuda Chief. Two out of the current three Vice Presidents are former Pemuda Chiefs.

In the meanwhile, Zaki, who is one of the four elected Pemuda UMNO exco from Putrajaya Division, is heard to be slotted for a position as Deputy CEO of MRCB. What is Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop thinking off?

Najib should be able to handle Omar Ong but he should be advised accordingly. Ops “Todak Dilanggar Temasek” is not aborted yet. The only difference is Kalimullah and Brendan Pereira is on standby at Malaysia Insider, and not within the New Straits Times.

BUM 2009: Interesting, fun ...

I was initially reluctant to go but finally relented.

Not because Tun M was the surprise speaker. How do one resist the persuasion of Desiderata and Rocky? I was even willing to depart RM60 for registration fee knowing I can't eat the lamb dinner awaiting in th eevening. Wonder if I could request a refund of lamb chop from Desi, my ex-DAP and now PKR blog friend, when I get around to visit him in Seremban.

Somewhat disappointed that lot of the old faces from the early blog explosion of 2006/07 were not there. I don't know.

Is it the increasing animosity from increasing partisanship on blogosphere? Or, many early bloggers are too busy since they are now wakil rakyat or prima donna bloggers? Organiser did not givethe prima donnas the stage maybe. I know one can't be contacted.

Perhaps, it was more the Man U vs Arsenal game at 7:45 pm.

Ah ... BUM 2007 was a pleasant gathering. It doesn't matter what your political persuasion or activism call is, but we meet, we chat, we laugh and we drink. Mine was coke. That was the first event where we put faces to nic names.

This year is no different. I finally got it right who is Maverick of blog Cakap Tak Serupa Bikin whose been on my blogroll from time immemorial.

I got to meet Helen Ang of the Centre of Policy Initiative, who wrote an excellent piece on a recent issue involving me, Big Dog and Sakmongkol. What happen to Sak? I thought he was going to come. Now he is being "anonymous" ...

Forgot to ask Helen, if she is the blogger AllofHelen of blog My All.

Coincidently I recognised her as one of those picked up in Ipoh on May 7th. As Dato A Kadir Jasin expressed surprise, one would have not have guess someone so polite and feminine can get picked up for wearing black.

As far as the content part of the event, most spoken were nothing new.

For the first part, The Media – Civil Society’s Perspectives, lawyer Phillip Koh gave an interesting reflection for bloggers to ponder from someone outside. He raised a lot of pertinent intellectual and philosophical issues on the impact of Internet and blogging towards society.

Will follow up with Desi or Mav for a copy of his paper. Hope it could be downloaded from CPI's website.

Dr KJ John, a columnist for Malaysiakini.com was repeating the subject of estate of powers and in his usual style, putting his own twist of terminology. Art Harun of blog Articulations was sounding like an overenthusistic young lawyer just got out of law school. I forgot who was the other speaker.

The next session was in Bahasa Melayu entitled "Bagaimanakah Media Baru boleh menggalakkan pemikiran kritis masyarakat?"

Dato Kadir Jasin had reservation. He observe the public is increasingly partisan in thinking and could not see views for what it is. Bloggers and commentators tend to only agree with what they want to agree and violently disagree becasue it is not what they want to hear and not the strength of argument pout forth.

Fathi Aris Omar of Malaysiakini and unupdated blog Patah Balek shared the same view. He felt the blogs is too loaded with expression of opinions rather than dissemination of informations and analysis that captured pertinent issues and made with proper methodology.

The others - Faisal Mustafa, blogger of Faisal Mustafa Online, and former Editor of Suara Keadilan and Sdr Fahri Azzat of blog Loyar Burok - were rambling the obvious.

As for Tun Mahathir, I have heard most of what he said yesterday in a Forum at PLF last year. In fact, he organised the first Blogger forum. Read here, here, here, and here.

He was in jovial mood, and telling 'naughty jokes'. Thats his style of loosening the crowd and lightening the Q&A session. Nevertheless, the Q&A was interesting as he answered all those "hostile" questions from bloggers.

The highlight yesterday must be his lengthy answer to a question from Dr Jeya of the blog The Phoenix Foundation on what broke the camel's back that led him to be openly critical of Tun Abdullah.

It was revealed that the cancellation of Aluminium plant in Bakun, double tracking and electrification from JB to Padang Besar, and Proton "sales" was not. The one that broke that camel's back was the cancellation of the scenic bridge in Johor Baru.

After his event, I said hi to YB Jeff Ooi, YB Nik Nazmi, Steven Gan and some others for I had to leave for something more important to society. Yes, off course. It was Man U vs Arsenal game.

On my way, I bump into an encounter between pro-UMNO bloggers, Parpukari and Gomo and pro-PKR bloggers, Perisik Rakyat and Mat Saman Kati, Perak Express.

Sorry folks, if you were expecting a brawl with blood all over the premise it didn't happen. In fact, they were so cordial and friendly and even exchanging handphone numbers. Perhaps they would stop leaving nasty comments on each others' blog after this since they personally know each other now.

Manchester United were crowned champions of England for a record-equalling 18th time at Old Trafford after a goalless draw with Arsenal ensured Liverpool cannot now catch their north-west rivals.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side might not have given Usain Bolt a goal to celebrate on his first visit to the Theatre of Dreams but the Premier League trophy will do as consolation.

After over three decades as the unquestioned kings of English football, the Merseysiders now have someone else to share the title with.

And, if Ferguson is to be believed it will not be long before the Anfield outfit lose it altogether.



While the first half ended with United still on course for the 11th league title of Ferguson's illustrious reign, Arsenal had every reason to be pleased with themselves.

After two dire displays that surrendered their Champions League semi-final with the Red Devils, plus a hammering on home soil by Chelsea, it was feared the Gunners would suffer yet another embarrassing mauling.

It surely could not be a coincidence that Andrey Arshavin's return from a combination of being cup-tied and contracting a flu bug coincided with Arsenal's return to form.

As Gunners fans search for reasons to be cheerful ahead of what will be another trophyless summer, the Russian playmaker is the main one.

Arshavin went on one mazy dribble from the left flank that would have opened United up totally had Jonny Evans not raced across to clear.

The former Zenit St Petersburg star was also the provider of a cross lone striker Robin van Persie might easily have steered into the net, rather than just over.

However, the world's fastest man did not come to Old Trafford to watch Arsenal.

The hosts certainly started as if they meant business with Darren Fletcher almost sending Cristiano Ronaldo through inside the opening minute.

Yet, as time wore on, it seemed Ferguson's side were adopting a pragmatic approach to the situation, ensuring their goal was tight and secure, pushing forward in numbers only when really necessary.

The energy of Carlos Tevez helped in that regard. Sometimes it seems the South American is doing the work of two men.

And, as the speculation over Tevez's future rumbles on, there is little doubt most United fans would want him signed permanently if at all possible.

It seems highly improbable though. And when he responded to his number 32 being flashed up as the man to be replaced by Park Ji-sung, the response, a little shake of the head and a two-handed wave to all four corners of the stadium, looked for all the world like a goodbye.

There has, of course, never been any discussion over Wayne Rooney.

Had voting for the various player of the year awards been based on the last two or three months' form alone, Rooney would have been top of the pile.

The England striker has added an extra level of consistency to his game that truly deserves him now to be ranked if not at the very top of the game, then only just underneath.

Rooney stole in behind Bacary Sagna to head a teasing Michael Carrick cross wide after earlier having an effort deflected away by Kolo Toure.

On the brink of his 11th championship, Ryan Giggs curled a free-kick over and was then off target with a volley.

Ronaldo had an even better opportunity at the start of the second period after Tevez had failed to manage a shot after Carrick had supplied the cross, but did enough to nudge it into the Portugal superstar's path.

After offering his own sprinting guidance yesterday, Bolt must have thought Ronaldo would offer a fitting payment. Instead, he leant back and skied his shot into the Stretford End.

In fairness, Bolt had chosen to come and watch his team on a rare day that they did not need to win.

For all the side issues surrounding Park's arrival, it suggested even less of an emphasis on attack, although Ronaldo did send one his trademark free-kicks whipping wide.

It marked the end of United's attacking intent.

Fabregas and Van Persie had one last shot at spoiling the party. But with the trophy ready and the tickets sorted, it seemed a shame to stop it.

Of Ahmad Maslan, Bloggers Seeked, and Johnny Come Lately

A friend SMS me about UMNO's new Information Chief, Dato Ahmad Maslan's comment that as the Bernama report reads, 60,000 UMNO Info Workers Don't Understand Their Responsibility. This revelation of an open secret means a lot of thing. Since I am still recovering from a swollen right wrist and practically blogging left handed, I can't write at length and have to be brief. The questions are basically:

WTF have they been doing about this?
WTF appointed these blurred bunch of idiots?
WTF took them so long to realise?
WTF allowed such thing to happen?

Let me open another open secret.

UMNO survive out of mostly the volunteers, sympathisers, and machinery outside the UMNO organisational structure. In other words outside Gurkhas.

Unlike the opposition, UMNO members are not generally true members and real activist. UMNO is dependent on outsiders rather than within themselves. A simple thing of putting up posters are done by paid contractors, who could be opposition sympathisers, and not they themselves doing it!

There is generally a lackadaisical attitude towards UMNO within UMNO, be it the position holders or members. I wonder why they become members in the first place? It is the people outside that actually love and sacrifice for UMNO. Generally, not the one in.

The latest thing happening is bloggers are sought after to help. Looks like bloggers who support UMNO are depended to do work which is supposed to be their work.

Imagine, Bloggers who pay to own their computers, Internet account, and travelling expenses to blog on their personal interest are expected and depended upon to give them prominence? To give them coverage? To do their talking? To do their warfare? Where the duck is UMNO and their claimed 3.2 million members? What are they doing with their deep resources, wide network, and paid personnel?

For UMNO specifically, buck up! Do your work yourself! Stop depending on others to do your political work! Your political machineries must be within your organisation and not outside. Otherwise, do a motion-of-no-confidence to throw out all those position holders, salaried workers, and even those members!

Off late, particularly after the General Election, there have been many attention given to bloggers to seek for assistance to disseminate information.

On the event day of BUM 2009, I say that that is what bloggers should not be doing. Bloggers are independent individuals who should freely blog to express and share their thoughts and viewpoint with honesty and clarity.

They are supposed to be indendent, critical thinking and fairminded but they are not supposed to be told what to pursue and not pursue. They are not somebody else's mouthpiece and to pursue subject of their own interest. We are not supposed to waste our space, bloody air time, and traffic of readers to be only doing the bidding for UMNO or PKR or PAS or BN or DAP.


Now when it is too late only UMNO realised. Prior to General Election 2008, bloggers were called so many names by UMNO leaders - Penembak Curi, irrelevent housewife and unemployed, goblog, etc., now they are sucking our knee cap for our help and cooperation.

Lately, many disparate groups seemed to be established to undertake this task of cyber warfare. Some wish to be the master strategist for the endeavour. Some organising information dissemination session. Since weeks after GE12, I was already invited to a closed group for discussion.


The strange and common thing about all these attempts are that all those talking, analysing, strategising, attending, and organising know nuts of blogging. I wonder if they even have an e-mail.

Thus, if they know nuts about what we are doing and what is happening in blogosphere, please SHUT UP! STOP TALKING AND DO MORE LISTENING! If you guys are reading me, let me tell yawl this ... "YOU GUYS ARE DOING THE WRONG THING!"

Since yawl are so into bloggers now, let tell yer that as usual, UMNO is "A CASE OF JOHNNY COME LATELY!"

Krisis Perak: Permohonan BN bubar DUN pernah ditolak Sultan

ADUN Perak Dato Hamdi Abu Bakar ada membuat kenyataan yang diambil dari blog Parpukari berikut:

Selepas PRU12 8 Mac 2008. Atas alasan BN memperolehi 28 kerusi berbanding DAP 18, PKR 7 dan PAS 6.

Dato Tajol Rosli telah mengadap DYMM Tuanku Sultan Perak memohon BN membentuk kerajaan. Baginda menolaknya, kemudian Dato Tajol memohon pembubaran Dewan atas alasan tiada parti yang mempunyai majoriti! Tuanku Sultan Perak telah menolak!

Maka Dato Tajol berkata adalah tidak adil jika Tuanku Sultan membubarkan Dewan sekarang ini di atas tuntutan DAP, PKR & PAS yang mempunyai hanya 28 kerusi sahaja, sedangkan kita semua tahu BN + Bebas = 31 kerusi (Majoriti mudah).

Maka YB Dato Dr Zambry berkata adalah menjadi tanggungjawab BN untuk mempertahankan hak majoriti rakyat melalui persidangan Dewan! BN

tidak gentar menghadapi pilihanraya. Persoalannya sekarang kenapa kita harus memohon dewan dibubarkan pada ketika BN mempunyai majoriti?

Lagipun pilihanraya akan hanya membazirkan wang rakyat dan menyusahkan kehidupan rakyat sahaja.

Kembalilah Kepada Rakyat. Pertahankan Hak Majoriti Rakyat di Dewan Undangan Negeri Perak!

Andainya keputusan mahkamah hari Isnan kekal dan Sivakumar kekal sebagai Speaker adakah mereka akan menghormati artikel 42(3) Perlembagaan Persekutuan dalam persidangan tergempat Dewan Undangan Negeri untuk diadakan undi tidak percaya?

Dari keengganan Nizar meletak jawatan dan lain-lain kerenah pihaknya dan DAP, adakah dia akan bersikap terhormat? Adakah Nizar selalu bercakap benar?

Perak Crisis: Answering Misperception

Blogger Marzuki Mohamad answered the perception created by Pakatan Rakyat on the May 7 fracas at the State Assembly in his posting entitled The Perak DUN Ruckus: Democracy Overworked.

He answered misperception involving Sivakumar's right as Speaker deprived, sitting not reconvene, Sivakumar's microphone turned off, Speaker can't be removed, police disallowed intervening, and death of democrasy. Extracts reproduced below:

1. Sivakumar was deprived of his right as a Speaker.

No, it was not true. Nobody stopped Sivakumar from doing his job as a Speaker when the Dewan convened. He entered the Dewan and sat on the Speaker's Chair.

He then ordered the seven BN assemblymen who had earlier been suspended, including the MB, and the three Independents to leave the Dewan. This was despite the court's decision which declared the suspension of the seven BN assemblymen was illegal.

No reason was given as to why he ordered the ten assemblymen to leave. He also refused to allow Datuk Seri Tajol Rosli who had been standing for more than 15 minutes to speak.

As the Speaker, he was the most powerful man in the Dewan he said. This means he is 'untouchable" and could do anything he wanted in the Dewan. So who deprived whose right?

2. The sitting was never convened because Sivakumar refused to begin the sitting unless the 10 ADUNs leave the Dewan.

Yes, Sivakumar did say that he would never begin the sitting unless the 10 ADUNs leave the Dewan. But he erred in law. Order 13(1) of the Standing Order clearly states that the order of business begins with the entry of the Speaker.

Speaker's announcement is item no 4 in the order of business. So when Sivakumar entered the Dewan, sat on the Speaker's Chair and made "announcements" that the 10 ADUNs should leave the Dewan, the Dewan was already in sitting.

3. If Sivakumar was not deprived of his right as a speaker, then why was his microphone turned off?

Get the fact right. The microphone was turned off only after the motion to remove Sivakumar as a Speaker was duly passed by the Dewan.

This means, when the microphone was turned off, Sivakumar was no longer the Speaker. He therefore had no right to speak as a Speaker. He should have honourably left the Speaker's Chair and taken his seat as an ordinary ADUN.

By refusing to vacate the Speaker's chair, he actually obstructed the new Speaker from discharging his duties. In fact, it was a necessity that the microphone was turned off.

Sivakumar kept shouting "saya tidak dengar apa-apa, saya tidak dengar apa-apa, saya tidak dengar apa" when Menteri Besar YAB Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir moved the motion to remove him.

Don't we think that it was an obstruction of the business of the Dewan?

4. The Speaker cannot simply be removed.

If an MB can be removed, why can't a Speaker?

A Speaker can be removed by a motion passed by a majority of the members of the house. On May 7, the MB used his authority under Order 13(2) of the Perak DUN's Standing Order to move a motion to remove the speaker. It is as simple as that. And it would be against the public interest if a Speaker cannot be removed.

5. The BN wanted to remove the Speaker because he is a member of the Opposition.

This is unfair. How would you run a westminster system of parliamentary government if a Speaker who is a member of the Opposition cannot be removed.

The scenario would be like this. Whenever the government wants to introduce a Bill in the Dewan, the Speaker will find fault with government assemblymen and suspend them for one or two weeks, or worse still, for 12 or 16 months.

(Don't rule out the possibility of arbitrariness in suspending the assemblymen as this is what Sivakumar exactly did in the suspension of the seven BN assemblymen previously).

The Speaker will make sure that the number of government assemblymen he suspends would be enough to reduce them into a minority. No government Bill can be passed. What if the Bill is a Supply Bill. The government will be in a "loss of supply" position, i.e. having no money to spend constitutionally.

Don't we think that this will lead to the collapse of a constitutional government? Removing the Speaker in the Perak case is a matter of necessity.

6. The police had acted arbitrarily by dragging Sivakumar out from the Dewan.
The police had been very cautious in taking action aginst the trouble makers. I bumped into a high ranking police officer outside the Dewan during the recess.

Someone asked him why the police did not go in to stop the ruckus. His answer was that the police had taken enough heat in handling the protesters outside the Dewan. Interfering in the business of the Dewan would only worsen public perception toward the police.

But why did the police finally come in and dragged Sivakumar out of the Dewan? The answer is simple. The situation was totally out of control. A Bentara was injured when he was trying to remove Sivakumar from the Speaker's Chair.

The Speaker had no choice but to call the police in. And that was after five hours of shove and scuffle in the Dewan.

My hunch is the PKR and DAP assemblymen purposely wanted the police to come in as part of their perception play. In fact the whole drama is just part of their perception play.

7. Democracy is dead

No. Democracy is not dead. It just overworked. Some people had just stretched the limit of democracy. In fact, it is bordering on anarchy. Yes, I mean it. It is anarchy with some leftist-leninist strand! Are some people slowly showing their true colors now?

But throughout the ruckus, I was wondering why PAS assemblymen sat quietly in the Dewan. Some were SMSing and others just looked poker faced. Hmmmm ....

Let me add few more.

8. Menteri Besar and Speaker has to sign declaration for seating
